Boilers

Boiler heating systems are a common way to heat homes or buildings by distributing hot water or steam through pipes to radiators, underfloor heating, or even air handling units. They work by heating water to a high temperature using either gas, oil, or electricity as the energy source. Focus HVAC's boiler experts can troubleshoot problems and provide solutions for all types of gas boilers.

How Boilers Work:
  1. Heating Process: The boiler burns fuel (gas, oil, or electricity) to heat water inside a closed system. The water is heated to a specific temperature (usually between 140°F - 180°F).
  2. Water Distribution: The heated water (or steam) is circulated through pipes that lead to radiators or underfloor heating systems in each room. The heat from the water warms up the room.
  3. Heat Exchange: As the hot water moves through the pipes and radiators, it transfers its heat to the surrounding air. This is how the space gets warm.
  4. Return to the Boiler: After the water loses its heat, it flows back to the boiler to be reheated, and the cycle continues.

Types of Boilers:
  1. Combi Boilers: These are compact and efficient boilers that provide both heating and hot water on demand, without the need for a separate water tank or cylinder. Great for smaller homes or apartments.
  2. System Boilers: These boilers require a separate hot water cylinder, but they provide a consistent supply of hot water to multiple taps or showers at once. Ideal for larger homes.
  3. Conventional (Regular) Boilers: These work with a separate cold-water tank and a hot-water cylinder, often used in homes with traditional heating systems or higher hot water demands.
  4. Condensing Boilers: Most modern boilers are condensing, meaning they capture and reuse heat from the flue gases to increase efficiency. They tend to have higher energy efficiency ratings and lower running costs.
